Tap Classes

    Beginner Tap & Jazz Combo Class

    Tuesdays 5:00-6:00

    Grades K-4 or by rec

    Instructor: Tiana

    Students are introduced to the foundations of jazz and tap dance. The class focuses on learning body isolations, levels in space, basic jazz terminology, and distinguishing nuances aligned with each style.

    ● Combo class - 30min tap, 30min jazz

    ● 2 recital dances, 1 costume

    Intermediate Tap

    Fridays 5:15-6:30

    -Grades 3-7 w/ recommendation only-

    Instructor: Zoe

    This class is broken up into 2 groups (Group 1 and Group 2). Based on age and/or skill level, students attend “skills and drills” either before the whole group or after.

    Group 1:  5:15-6:15

    Group 2: 5:30-6:30

    Students expand upon their knowledge of tap skills and vocabulary and put that knowledge to work.

    This class involves lengthier combinations and an expectation of clear tap sounds while dancing.

    ● At least 2 years of beginner or foundational tap

    ● Begin to apply previous knowledge more seamlessly and automatically

    ● Able to listen and dance on the beat without, or with little, help from the teacher

    ● By end of year, able to easily execute: single and double maxi fords, time steps, drawbacks, swinging cramp rolls, rhythm turns, and other foundational concepts

    Advanced Tap

    Wednesdays 6:45-7:45

    -by recommendation only-

    Instructor: Zoe

    Students in advanced tap are expected to be familiar with tap vocabulary, skills, and sequences. This class is fast-paced with an expectation of learning choreography relatively quickly. Students may occasionally be asked to tap individually so the teacher can hear their tap sounds more clearly.

    ● At least 3 years of int or foundational tap

    ● Able to apply previous knowledge seamlessly at quicker speed

    ● By the end of the year, able to easily execute: shuffle fireworks, multiple pullbacks in a row, shiggy bops, jump flaps forward taking off from one or two feet

Hip Hop

Mondays 5:15-6:15

Age 11-15 w/ rec

  • Taught by a former Phunk Phenomenon and Boston Celtics dancer

  • Dancers will learn age-appropriate hip hop choreography, grooves, rhythm, and musicality.

  • Class will focus on confidence, coordination, performance quality, and individual style.

  • Students will build strength, stamina, and body control through upbeat movement combinations.

  • Dancers should expect a fun, high-energy class with appropriate music and movement.

  • No previous hip hop experience is required, but dancers should be ready to move, try new things, and put forth their full effort into moving in a possibly unfamiliar way
